【今週の一曲 #16】One More Soul to the Call
以前ホラーについての記事を書いたことがありましたが
ホラーゲームは嫌いではなく、むしろ好きです。
無駄にグロテスクだったり、痛々しい表現があると嫌ですけど...。
好きなのですが、ホラーゲームのBGMというのはメロディより雰囲気重視のものが多く特段耳にとまるようなものはほとんどありませんでした。
「サイレントヒル」に出会うまでは。
コナミさんが発売したPlayStationの初代から始まり、9作品登場している和製ホラーの代表作です。
日本独特のジャパニーズホラーが「零」。
雰囲気重視の和製西洋ホラーが「サイレントヒル」です。

全て個人的な感性ですが。
しかし、雰囲気重視といっても音楽には他のホラーゲームにはない素晴らしいものがあります。
ほとんどのシリーズ作品にある主題歌もさることながら、イベントシーンのBGMも素敵。
今回はそんなサイレントヒルシリーズの「サイレントヒル ホームカミング」から1曲ご紹介。
今週の一曲
「One More Soul to the Call」
「サイレントヒル ホームカミング」はPlayStation3、XBOX360で発売されたホラーゲームです。
開発は海外のDouble Helix Gamesが行っており、日本への流通もありません。
それは単にローカライズがされなかったというよりも、内容が過激すぎて日本での規制を潜り抜けられないという理由もあったようです。
確かに、かなりグロぉな表現や道徳的にアカン敵も存在します。
(良く分からない形状の敵)
従来のサイレントヒルシリーズでもきわどいクリーチャーも存在しましたが、今回は海外テイストが加わったことでいよいよダメだったのでしょう。
過去作のファンとしてもこの作品はサイレントヒルと言っていいものか、という意見もあるようですが、僕は良いと思います。
グロテスクな表現に隠れていますが、初代でもテーマの一つだった「土着信仰」や「親子関係」も盛り込んでいますし、「裏世界」「UFO」などシリーズでは大きな役割をもつ要素も網羅しています。
戦闘システムがより攻撃的になっただけで、基本システムも変わりませんしこれはサイレントヒルシリーズの一つです。
さて、曲の話ですね。
「One More Soul to the Call」はこのゲームの主題歌です。
シリーズの音楽を手掛けてきた「山岡 晃」さんが作曲、「Mary Elizabeth McGlynn 」さんがボーカルを担当しています。
儚くも力強い歌声はこの作品の悲しみと怒りをうまく表現していると思います。
英語力がないので和訳とかはできないのですが、以下が歌詞です。

Death to the livingというフレーズはこの作品のテーマの根底を表現していると思います。
しかし、英語の歌詞というのは理解するのが難しいですね。
ちなみに、エンディング曲の「This Sacred Line」も素晴らしい曲です。
山岡さんのテーマソングはどれもこれも素晴らしいです。
ただ、この曲をCDから聞く場合、「SILENT HILL SOUND BOX」というシリーズの曲をまとめたBOXを買うしかありません(多分)。
お値段結構するので手軽に手は出せませんが、よかったら...。
他のシリーズの主題歌も曲も素敵なので。
最後に
ホラーゲームの曲は耳にとまらないと書きましたが、「サイレントヒル」以外にも良い曲を持っている作品はあります。
「バイオハザード2」のボス戦の曲や「サイレン」のステージ曲も好きです。
プレイしているときは聞き流していても、改めて聞いてみると魅力を発見するんですよね。
是非普段プレイしているゲームの曲を単体で聞いてみてください。
新しい楽しみが増えるかもしれません。
